Odell Beckham Jr. defends sexuality after posing for Calvin Klein campaign
In a town known for its happy hour customs, summer can be an even beat time to get advantage of post-work drink and devour deals. Interns are in town, summer Fridays are in full swing, and patios and rooftops are aplenty. Here are a not many prime, non-comprehensive spots for an afternoon deal with besties, colleagues, and modern connections.
Alfreda. Dupont’s Alfreda, a tribute to the chef’s grandmother, offers relaxed pizza and traditional Italian eats. The glad hour runs Monday-Friday 4-6 p.m., featuring $8 spritzes and BOGO pizzas. Rare do spritzes enjoy the Italians, and Alfreda leans in on five kinds plus one N/A spritz; our go-to is the rose and mezcal with grapefruit or the locally made Don Ciccio limoncello spritz with basil.
Lyle’s. Especially leaning into the spritz side of summer is at Lyle’s, fully embracing the fizzy ephemera of the season with the Summer of Spritz. The Dupont Circle hotel restaurant imagines cocktails from France, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Spritzes feature limoncello and vinho verde. For those that hit Lyle’s every week during the spritz special—and gain a literal st
Odell Beckham Jr. is not a dude threatened by toxic masculinity, so when various Carolina Panthers used gay slurs against him in a 2015 game while he was part of the New York Giants, he was unbothered. In the 26-year-old's new interview with GQ, the Cleveland Browns wide receiver opened up about the incident and all the whispers that he might be gay.
"I’ve never had an opportunity to talk about this. Honestly wasn't offended," Beckham said with ease. "I’ve never once had no problem with anybody who has their own personal life that they live. I contain friends who are gay. It was almost more entertaining to me. I almost messed with them even more. It's like when someone gives me an ultimatum, I'm usually always going to go to the opposite way of what you want me to go. So when they would utter that, I would almost mess with them even more. I have no problem with anyone's sexual orientation."
GQ writerMark Anthony Green went on to indicate out that the fuss around his sexuality, particularly on black gossip sites directly contribute to homophobia in the black community or "the idea that someone must be gay because they're dancing or possess blond hair." "Or because they're 'close with other me
GQ: "There was a period of time when a lot of gossip sites—specifically black gossip sites—would constantly say that you were closeted. They'd call you “excited” in a hot-tub photo with your teammates or simply just say you're gay. How'd that make you feel?"
Odell Beckham Jr: "I've never had an opportunity to talk about this. Honestly wasn't offended. I've never once had no problem with anybody who has their own personal life that they live. I have friends who are homosexual. It was almost more entertaining to me. I almost messed with them even more. It's like when someone gives me an ultimatum, I'm usually always going to go to the opposite way of what you want me to go. So when they would say that, I would almost mess with them even more. I hold no problem with anyone's sexual orientation."
GQ: "I feel like posts like that only contribute to homophobia in the black collective. The idea that someone must be gay—or that being lgbtq+ is in any way shameful—because they're dancing or have blond hair seems so small-minded."
Odell Beckham Jr: "Or because they're 'close with other men.' Even love little videos where they view me leaned back or something, they'll say that I'm looking a
