2022 Ford Mustang “High Performance” Convertible: Yes, or No?
Let me set the scene:
For several years, the world has been on shuffle. We’ve lurched from organic disaster to plague and back again, in no particular order. The east coast of Australia has had the water-bomb from hell sitting over it for a week. We’ve gone from a mediocre summer, to flooding rains of biblical proportions.
The worst flooding on record is of course, the flawless time to load the boys into a topless sports car for a weekend away. And so, begins our journey:
A half an hour out of town, the heavens opened. It is surprising how brief rain comes in at high speed, but alas one has to cease to raise the roof. Quicker than you can speak, “boufant coiffure”, the roof and windows were up but the driver’s side rear window hadn’t properly seated itself, leaving a 10mm gap at the seal with the door window. We had to decrease it, then boost it again, assisting the last 10mm by gripping and pulling with a firm tug. That is something you expect to contain to do in a moody 1967 Mustang, not a 2021 example.

Mustang is Ford’s new Muscle car imported from the nice ol’ USA. It is ferociously fast and drinks like a drag queen. Those who comprehend me know that I’m very fond of American muscle, and no I don’t mean the kind found at Venice Beach, although……
The GT’s blistering Coyote 5.0L V8 is not force-fed wind by a turbo. No, this is raw power from a big old chunk of American knowhow. It belts out 303kw and 530Nm by drinking only premium 98Ron fuel, of course. At least that’s what the book says. Open the fuel cap and there is a huge E10 94ron compatible. Assume what I put in?
Ford said people would stop and stare, and stare they did. They also took photos and help up their thumbs and asked for selfies. Some were very keen and followed PONY21 taking videos on their phones.
People of all ages are potty about Mustang which bodes well for its future.
The voluptuous bodywork continues a drawn-out line of handsome hunks, and uses a familiar formula from the 60’s car. The less said about some of the 90’s Mustangs the better.

First - some interesting history. The Mustang Mach-E actually started experience as an electric lifted version of a Ford Point. Some muscle car loyalists are upset that the Mustang brand has been slapped on an electric crossover, but I personally think it was a smart marketing move (admittedly, I was also mad at first).
