The bell above the door chimed merrily as Elara, a woman with eyes that sparkled with genuine warmth, stepped into our store. Sunlight streamed through the huge windows, illuminating rows of vibrant clothing. Elara, a devoted fan of a popular young individual fantasy series, had come specifically to find something particular. Word on the online forums, where she spent hours dissecting the latest book releases, was that our shop was the place to be for fandom-inspired apparel that was both elegant and supportive. Her heart was filled with a mixture of excitement and anticipation as she navigated the colorful aisles, seeking a way to show her identity and her allegiance to the ideals of inclusivity. The buzz around our “The Family Gay Shirt” had, of course, been impossible for her to overlook. She had always been a solid believer in standing up for what is right.

My wife and I contain been fans of Chip and Joanna Gaines for many years. We watched their home renovation display Fixer Upper weekly, if not more often. When we drive through Waco, we usually stop at their restaurant to chew. I have written often with gratitude about their very public faith amid the opposition they own faced for their evangelical beliefs.

Then came news that their new show features a gay couple raising two adopted sons.

According to the Dallas Morning News,Back to the Frontier “follows three families in the Canadian Rockies as they navigate a technology-free, laborious summer meant to mimic the lifestyle of 1880s homesteaders.” Among the participants is a gay couple from Dallas who share a cabin with their adopted ten-year-old twin sons.

When Christians responded to the news by voicing their disappointment and reaffirming biblical sexual morality, Chip responded to their criticism:
