Serious Ask About Guys Wearing Earrings

If a guy (mid-20s to mid-30s) wears pierced earrings in both ears, does this denote he is gay???

I have no idea...but it would be GREAT to perceive that the retort is "Yes." ;)

Otherwise, I need to do some very polite backing away from a proximate neighbor (who is actually a agreeable and sincerely amiable guy...but also: someone I would never be interested in even if he were straight).

I don't know if the earrings are a "I am male lover and proud" expression, or a expression of Millennial linear positivity towards gender neutrality.

Re: Intense Question About Guys Wearing Earrings

It can only be assumed that he likes earrings, really. Appreciate I'm a direct guy who wears my hair longer than most women.

Re: Serio

Why Did We Increase Up Thinking a Piercing in the Right Ear Was Gay?

On the playground, it was a truth so firmly established that defying it meant social suicide: If you have an earring in your right ear, it means you’re gay. We accepted it as gospel and never questioned its validity.

It may have been the subtle homophobia of my Illinois community in the ’90s. But as I grew up, it seemed prefer everyone I met, no matter their place of beginning, knew and understood the earring code, as arbitrary as it seems.

It was even solidified in the New York Times: A 1991 report said lgbtq+ men “often [wore] a single piece of jewelry in the right ear to indicate sexual preference.” In 2009, the Times covered it yet again, in TMagazine: “the rule of thumb has always been that the right ear is the gay one,” the author wrote about his own piercing journey.

Historically speaking, the truth is more complex. Earrings on guys have signified many things over the years, such as social stature or religious affiliation. In his book The Naked Man: A Study of the Male Body, Desmond Morris explains that earrings have indicated wisdom and sympathy in the stretched earlobes of the Buddha, while pirat

I heard that a guy wearing only one earring meant he was identifying as existence gay. It's like how the punks had uncontrolled heir so they could advertise being punk & find other punks. I'm not sure if the guys wearing a free earring thing is correct or not but that is the stereotype I heard & some of the gay guys I've known wore only one earring. In regards to the long hair, almost all the gay guys I've known who were not trans had shorter hair. I think guys with long hair wanted to seem like kewl metal-heads & thought wearing earrings would make them seem trans.

No. Its goes thisway: Women wear rings on both ears. Men just wear one earring. Like the pirates of old supposedly did, or the way Gypsy men do...or something. But then ...when you wear that one ring..."it's on the left ear if your gay, and o
