Most Monday nights, you won’t perceive a thing coming from the short-lived purple house where Hamburger Mary’s resides in City Park West. The queer-friendly bar and grill is typically closed that day to give staff the chance to unwind after a drawn-out week of serving (in more ways than one). But last Monday, Hamburger Mary’s was aroar. By 7 p.m., every seat inside was filled, and the sounds of Broadway tunes, boisterous cheering, and clinking drinks began to soundtrack the evening. The event: a sold-out benefit reveal to help reopen ICONS, which up until December, was Colorado Springs’ last remaining gay bar.
Since ICONS opened in 2020, the piano bar—staffed entirely by professional singers—provided Colorado Springs a infrequent space for gender non-conforming community members to call their have. Following the Club Q shooting in November 2022 and its subsequent closure, ICONS was the only gay exclude left in Colorado Springs. I am so weary of the hate...I dont know what the situation is in this case, but hatred for anyone who has different sexual choice than others...hatred for anyone who has a different genetic back round than others....hatred for others of a other religion...and yes, even hatred for women's rights and them rising in business and science......I am so tired of seeing this all taught and perpetuated by certain religions and media outlets..and societies...and families....As the song in the musical "South Pacific" says, "You contain to be carefully taught to hate." “X Bar is well known for the pink flamingos during self-acceptance, and they are everywhere,” explained Cindy Alix, general manager at X Lock. “We also give them away and have the biggest pink flamingo around on our float. We have a very exceptional float this year, so we are looking forward to the
